R tronic
The R8 can be supplied with R tronic transmission as an option. This sequential 6-speed gearbox, like the R8 itself, hails from the world of motor sport and places a clear emphasis on performance. The gearbox can be operated manually by either a joystick or the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The option of automatic shifting is also available. And thanks to shift-by-wire technology, gearshifts are accomplished with lightning speed.

Audi magnetic ride
Instead of the conventional damper fluid, the Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping system uses a special fluid whose viscosity can be influenced by an electromagnetic field. Audi magnetic ride uses this effect to deliver the correct damping forces in every driving situation, thus adapting road behaviour to the prevailing road conditions effectively in real time. The system has two basic settings: "Standard" is for long-distance driving and "Sport" for an enhanced dynamic performance.

Audi Space Frame® (ASF)
An Audi Space Frame® (ASF) of the latest generation has been developed for the R8. The ASF® owes its ultra-rigid structure to a frame made of aluminium and magnesium. Enclosed hollow profiles that are directly joined together serve as the members. The aluminium panels, which also perform a supporting function, are incorporated in between them. This design exhibits high strength and body rigidity, while being much lighter in weight. The result is superior road performance, greater agility and improved handling.
