CFRP components

CFRP: regardless of whether it is for aircraft or automotive construction – carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (or CFRP for short) is the material of the future. And quite rightly too – CFRP is 60 percent lighter than steel, yet offers comparable strength and even greater creative freedom.

Seven carbon fibres bunched together are no wider in diameter than a human hair. CFRP components are nevertheless far more robust than traditional materials – and lighter too. In practice, this means high levels of safety, enhanced performance and improved handling. The Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI quattro is one of the models to feature CFRP components: in the side sections, the bodywork, the hood compartment cover and the interior.
